“We’re More Alike Than Different” is a short video by the National Down Syndrome Congress in the United States.

In the spirit of this month’s Impact Challenge to “Smile and Engage” and to honor National Down Syndrome Awareness month in the U.S., we post a link and invite you to watch. It’s a pretty fabulous video that opened our hearts, minds, and eyes just a little bit more — maybe yours too. The title says it all.

… and in these times of our having witnessed the heartbreaking impact of intolerance toward others who are different, let’s just say this message brings on extra importance.

Last month, we challenged friends and followers to submit ideas for Weekly Impact Efforts. We asked that they be “bite-sized” and things that Nils and I would be able to do within a week’s time.  The winner would be whomever submitted the most number of ideas that we felt we could put into action.

A small number of people responded, but those who did respond sent tons of great ideas. Thank you all!

The Winner of March’s Monthly Impact Challenge is: (more…)

Earlier in the week, we announced this month’s Monthly Impact Challenge.  And, we promised that later in the week we’d announce the prize incentive.  Well, it’s later in the week!

The follower who submits the most Impact ideas that Nils and I believe we can put into action, will choose between one of the following prizes:

French-based Decodelire designs and produces a varied-line of practical and fun bags and accessories. Corinne has given several of these whimsical bags to friends and they’re always a big hit. Made of a durable plastic, they wipe clean easily and the vivid colors and designs always invite comment. The prize bag is one of the smaller shoulder bags, measuring 7.87 x 3.54 x 9.5 inches (20x9x24 cm), 11×5.51×10.2 inches ( 28x14x26 cm) or 11×7.87×5.1 inches (28x20x13 cm). The exact bag and color awarded will depend on availability at the time.

Or, an über-cool official FIFA 2010 World Cup football (soccer to North Americans) t-shirt. We think this year’s logo design is the best we’ve seen in many years. Size and color may depend on availability, but currently S, M, L, XL, XXL in black, navy and white are in stock.

So, get your creative juices flowing and start submitting your ideas for weekly Impact Efforts that we can take on.

Deadline for all submissions is Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 at 6:00 PM, Eastern Standard Time. Send your ideas in dribs and drabs as they come to you, or all at once.

The winner will be announced sometime around the first week of April. Shipping of the prize will follow shortly after.

February’s Impact Challenge:  With Nils working out of the country, we haven’t had the chance to go through ALL the submissions for February’s Impact Challenge (there were many).  The announcement of the winner will be made on Monday, March 8th! Promise :-)

January’s Monthly Impact Challenge idea comes from reader Aresby:

We’ve all been generous through the season, but hunger doesn’t stop with the holidays. Let’s continue to remember the needy children, families and seniors! How about putting aside an extra can of veggies every day. Or next time there’s a two-fer, save that “free” can for others. At your next dinner party or when friends come to watch the game, ask guests to bring cans of food or boxes of cereal instead of a six-pack or box of chocolates. You don’t need those extra calories anyway, right? (Ok, so maybe I should only speak for myself.)

This month’s challenge will be judged by weight, so collect these canned and unopened non-perishable goods*, and weigh your bag(s) before delivering them to your local food bank. (more…)
